Built like a competition timer

  • Hold to start: hold Space (or press and hold the display on a phone) until the time turns green, then release. Any key or tap stops it.
  • Inspection: 15 seconds, with spoken calls at 8 and 12 seconds. Starting between 15 and 17 seconds adds +2; after 17 seconds the solve is a DNF, as in competition rules.
  • Averages: ao5 and ao12 drop the best and worst solve and average the rest; ao100 trims the best and worst five. One DNF counts as the worst time; two in an ao5 make the average a DNF.
  • Penalties after the fact: toggle +2 or DNF on any solve, or delete it.

Scrambles are random-move sequences for 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 that never turn the same face twice in a row. Official competitions use random-state scrambles from dedicated software, so treat these as practice scrambles.

Questions

How does the inspection time work?

Press Space once to begin 15 seconds of inspection. Hold Space until green and release to start the solve. Starting after 15 seconds adds two seconds; after 17 seconds the solve is a DNF.

What is ao5 and ao12?

Average of 5 and average of 12. The best and worst solves are dropped and the rest averaged, which smooths out a lucky or unlucky solve.

Are the scrambles competition scrambles?

They're random-move scrambles for practice. Competitions use random-state scrambles generated by official software.
